AUSTIN TRIP – Day 1 (Travel/Check-in/BBQ)

Day 1: So, the trip took about 4 1/2 hours. We arrived around 3P and checked into the Hilton – Austin.

So far it’s been relaxing. Timmy and I went to “Iron Works BBQ” for dinner. Now, here’s my honest opinion. With all the reviews I’ve heard my expectations were different. Essentially, and I’m trying to be nice, it wasn’t as good as I expected. I had the sampler platter. Quite honestly, in comparison for this particular spot, I find BBQ in Texoma to be a lot better. The ribs and brisket were too dry and the sausage tasted like it was missing something. About the only item I enjoyed was the banana pudding cup.

Maybe they were having a bad night. I don’t know. After dinner we took a quick swim in the pool. I Skyped-in with Joseph and Jacqueline. I’m about to settle in and play some vintage StarCraft.

Tomorrow, for breakfast we’re going to try “Juan in a Million”, for lunch “Piranha’s” (Sushi) and for dinner, “The Salt Lick” Both “The Salt Lick”, and “Juan in a Million” have been featured in “The Travel Channel’s “Man vs. Food”.

Some time during the day, we’re going to tour the Texas Capitol Building.

That’s it, good night!

If you want a real treat try to work in lunch or dinner at the Hyde Park Bar & Grille on Duval north of the University area. It has been a primo place for years. The chicken fried steak and fried potatoes were always awesome and they have a peach dessert to die for.
